Homeopathy for People and Pets

I’ve known several friends who’ve sworn by their homeopathic vets. All of them had dogs with serious physical illnesses. In those days, I didn’t look at health the same way I do now. I was intrigued by homeopathy but there was nothing wrong with my dogs. They were very healthy and required little veterinary care other than the usual exams.

But those exams consisted of only “the usual”. If the vital signs were good, then the dogs must be healthy. For behavioral issues, the vet recommended hiring a trainer.

While hiring a trainer is a logical thing to do, and a very effective thing to do if you can find a trainer that you can work well with, there’s more to it than that.

Behavioral issues often stem from emotional issues, and the emotions have a lot to do with, well, health.

At the advice of my raw food distributor, I contacted a homeopathic vet to find out if there was a solution to some of Dasher’s idiosyncratic behaviors…aside from her fear aggression, which most people, including myself, attribute to lack of socialization, Dasher has always shredded bedding. Doesn’t matter whose it is – hers, mine, Bella’s – but only bedding, and not while she’s left home alone. She also has a terrible history of eating non-food items like, well, like anything she gets her paws on. Screws, nails, zipper heads, coins, paper money, and the straps of very expensive shoes are some of the things she has consumed. Perhaps worst and most worrisome was the latex glove she swallowed whole only two months after she came home. It’s not like I didn’t puppy-proof – she just always found a way to scarf down any fallen object.

After several months of homeopathic treatment, I was given a diagnosis for Dasher’s behavior – something I’d always chalked up to Border Collie neurosis. The syndrome was vaccinosis, and all of her symptoms were on the list.

Recently, I had a revelation, one which pointed out to me ways in which I tend to compartmentalize things – and that was that I had seen the sign for a homeopathist in town, and while intrigued, I had no reason to go – because I’m healthy.

I realized that despite my lack of physical symptoms, that I really could be functioning at a more optimal level. Something was holding me back from reaching my true full potential – and I wasn’t sure what it was.

So I booked an appointment for myself. The homeopathist did an assessment and gave me a homeopathic remedy, a flower essence and an herbal tonic. Wow, what a difference it’s made, not only in my productivity, but in my outlook, as well.

Ah, another holistic solution I sought out for my dogs, that has worked for me as well. Blessings come in mysterious ways, but most often, I find mine come in fur coats!
