Looking for a more peaceful and humane way of dealing with behavioral issues?
“I’ve never seen Brutus so calm!” – Jennifer A.
I was surprised the day that Brutus showed me his teeth. It was such an odd experience that at first it didn’t even register as I put on his gentle leader. I’d been walking Brutus off and on for years, ever since the first day he came home.
When I returned later that day for his dinner time walk, there was no mistaking his communication. I spoke to human mom about it and asked if perhaps Brutus was in pain. But he wasn’t, and she’d had no problem with his gentle leader head harness, which he wore every day.
I’m not one to show anyone’s pet who’s boss. Instead I suggested a more peaceful means of addressing the issue, and his owner agreed to trying a Reiki treatment.
In less than five minutes after I started the treatment, Brutus lay still and quiet on the floor beside me. So quiet, in fact, that his owner remarked that she had never seen him so calm – ever!
I returned on a weekly basis for the next month or so, and each week, Brutus was anxiously awaiting his treatment. He approached wagging his tail and getting into position, showing me where he wanted me to place my hands, and settling down quickly. After each session, I put on his gentle leader and we went for a short walk.
His owner told me that after I left he was less agitated when the mailman drove by, and she had noticed small changes in his usual behavior with other dogs. He did not resist the gentle leader when I came to walk him when Jennifer was working.
I still walk Brutus when I’m needed to – and I always acknowledge that little nudge he gives me when he’d like a little extra shot of Reiki in his day.
Reiki is a gentle and holistic practice that promotes systemic balance through light touch. It reduces stress and works with any other medical or holistic treatment your pet may be receiving. I’ve been honored to work with many terminally ill pets. Reiki treatments provide such animals with a better quality of life and offer great comfort to their human companions.
Reiki treatments can:
reduce anxiety, including separation anxiety
alleviate physical pain
speed up the healing of injuries
help both humans and animals prepare for a pet’s transition and cope with grief
strengthen the immune system, resulting in a stronger ability to deal with stress and better health
If you’re looking for ways to help your pet with emotional or behavioral problems, why not try a Reiki treatment?
